Sustainability – Our Community Pledge
We’re into sustainability and we’ve got acres of wetlands, walkable community layout, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) designation, and Energy Star certification to prove it. We will also have a community farm, an earth-friendly attitude, and Mother Nature right outside our doorstep. We were even one of the first communities in Vermont to receive Smart Growth Designation from the Smart Growth Collaborative. In short, we’ve got what you need to live an earth-concious lifestyle, because we’ve done our best to make South Village one sustainable- and wonderful place to live.
We define sustainability in every aspect of South Village. Our Energy Star certification means our homes are earth-friendly. You can see some of the many energy and environment-friendly features we have built into our homes with this interactive energy-friendly house plan. Our community farm promotes healthy living. And our acres of protected wetlands, open space, and wildlife habitat will preserve the environment for generations to come.
South Village was designated a “Smart Growth” community in 2003 by the Vermont Smart Growth Collaborative, and alliance of environmental and planning organizations promoting responsible development. South Village is the largest new neighborhood to receive this designation and was awarded in the initial round of designations. The criteria for designation includes location factors, compact development form and planning quality.
Now that’s South Village Sustainability. Not to mention the perfect place to reconnect.
